WAEC Instructs Candidates with Withheld 2024 WASSCE Results to Check Their Statuses

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a directive to schools and candidates whose May/June Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results are currently withheld due to reported cases of malpractice. WAEC has advised these individuals to check their status on the official WAEC portal to determine whether their withheld results have been released or if investigations are still ongoing.

WAEC recently addressed candidates with withheld results, emphasizing that the official portal is the only way to verify the status of their results. This update follows WAEC's earlier announcement that 215,267 candidates, representing 11.92% of the 1,805,216 who sat for the exam, had their results withheld due to suspected malpractice. The council had previously allowed affected candidates to lodge complaints and prove their innocence through a dedicated portal, aiming to ensure fair hearings and expedite the resolution process.

In a recent statement, WAEC spokesperson Mrs. Moyosola Adesina informed the media that investigations are still in progress. She noted that candidates and schools that have lodged complaints and demonstrated their innocence have had their results released, though she did not provide specific numbers. Mrs. Adesina stressed that cases still under investigation likely involve strong evidence of malpractice, requiring further scrutiny. She added that schools or candidates in this category would have to wait a bit longer, along with those who have not yet lodged any complaints.

Regarding the 2024 WAEC withheld results, the council has assured that the National Examination Committee will meet on or before early October to finalize decisions. While WAEC acknowledges the importance of timely results for candidates' admissions into tertiary institutions and other educational pursuits, the council remains committed to thoroughly investigating each case to ensure fairness and integrity. Mrs. Adesina assured concerned individuals that the waiting period will not be prolonged, as the matter has a defined timeframe.

In related news, WAEC had previously announced that withheld results from the 2024 WASSCE would be released after a "review period" of four to eight weeks.
