The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Gombe State University chapter, has declared an indefinite strike over unmet demands. According to *Legit.ng*, the decision was made following a congress meeting at the university on Wednesday, September 11. This marks the first internal strike in the university's 21-year history.

Dr. Suleiman Jauro, the ASUU branch chairman, explained that the strike was necessary due to poor teaching and learning conditions. He noted that despite efforts to resolve the issues through other channels, no progress had been made. One of the main grievances is the failure to implement the N30,000 minimum wage, which Governor Muhammad Inuwa signed into law in 2020. The university is still using the outdated 2012 salary structure, even though the national minimum wage is now N70,000.

Frustrations are further fueled by the fact that many Nigerian politicians send their children to schools abroad, highlighting a lack of commitment from the government and university management to address the ongoing crisis in the education sector.
