JAMB Clarifies Uniform Cut-Off Marks for Tertiary Institution Admissions

Jul 23, 2024  JAMB

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has denied setting cut-off marks for admissions into higher institutions nationwide.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Thursday, July 18, the Board dismissed reports that it had set 140 as the cut-off mark for universities and 100 for polytechnics. "There is no such thing as a 'cut-off mark' in the admission process to tertiary institutions in Nigeria; what exists is a minimum tolerable score determined by individual institutions," it said. This denial follows reports that JAMB had pegged 140 as the cut-off mark for universities and 100 for polytechnics and colleges of education. The statement, attributed to JAMB Registrar Professor Ishaq Oloyede, clarified this during the 2024 Policy Meeting of the Board in Abuja.
